WEEK 8 and the thoughts which have been thunk

Why I study hard is also the reason I stop from time to time. I spent part of my summer on Bear Island, Maine. No Internet, no phone, no mosquito netting...

Here are my two favorite bears.

That said, wow, what a week. Our little hospital waiting room of a class keeps finding tech based solutions to staying on task, cool. The support of our work from fellow students is more than I have seen in any class, be it brick and mortar or online. This leads me to believe (yeah I used the "believe" word, ain't blogs grand) technology based communication may be one of the best collaborative tools available. I spent my school collaboration day helping one of my science teacher friends edit some video, and bringing us closer as colleagues. Rose Ann keeps sending me to new and fascinating web opportunities whose opportunities to download toolbars has rendered windows Internet explorer even more useless than it was when I began this course. To top it off I got a Skype reminder that today was Pam Eder's birthday; giving me an excuse to give her a Skype call instead of just a chat.

The projects are impressive, the people I have surrounded myself with are great, and the learning experience enormous. Virtually, a great place to be.

I am happy that you have found so much technology that you have liked. It has occurred to me that discovery is the primary pedagogy is learning technology. Nothing I have done has been very systematic, and that’s not my mathematical style. Congratulations. I would never go without mosquito netting either.

Kent,

I will not be able to go anywhere this summer, except my two residencies, both of which I look forward to very much. Next summer, I plan to cruise on up to my home in Southern Alaska and spend a month or more! We are one of six families on our little island. There is nothing to eat except crab and clams! Oh my...

I put two new links on my blog. There is so much to learn, I cannot seem to do it fast enough! I now have official approval to create professional development for my faculty for next year. I am looking forward to that new lifestyle, as I am sure it will turn into just that.

I also just joined a cohort to learn Moodle next year. I have had two courses on it, now I will really make it happen.

I have no pearls of wisdom for you today. I hope you have a wonderful week.

Rose Ann

In addition, Susan, surely you jest, as a mathematician I do everything systematically. My husband says I am a machine!

Kent-

Thanks for the Skype call on my b-day. It was an unexpected surprise. I am also learning a lot of new information on technology and web sites. That's so much fun. I also find the Skype conversations great. We're dealing with severe storms and very high winds this weekend, so technology connection is a bit wacky. On top of that, our temps took a dive back into the 50s.

Kent, the way you've reached out to classmates has really been a big part of building the Skype experience for all. So, thank you from many of us.
